Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
Under guidance of the Director and Associate Director of the GLMWT
, and in cooperation with other staff, take principal
responsibility for all aspects of Wind Tunnel test operations,
maintain knowledge of and implement continuous development of
appropriate test methods, maintain liaison with users of the GLMWT
and assist in test planning including scheduling. Act as a primary
contact for coordination of users and University administration to
expedite contract initiation and administration. Become familiar
with and assist with all aspects of facility maintenance. Assist
the team in planning the direction of laboratory initiatives and
take a primary role in the implementation of adopted plans.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science degree - major should be Aerospace or
Mechanical Engineering plus at least 4 years following the B.S.
degree including at least 3 years doing wind tunnel
experiments.
Or Master of Science degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
plus at least 1 year following the M.S. At least 2 years doing wind
tunnel experiments of which 1 year can be during the degree
studies.
Or Ph.D. in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering with equivalent of
1 year doing wind tunnel experiments.
Knowledge of fluid mechanics, instrumentation, mechanical design
and fabrication methods with a focus on experimental work is
essential. Hands on capability in preparing programs for data
acquisition and reduction is essential.
Must be knowledgeable in: aerodynamics, mechanical design,
operation of apparatus used in aerodynamic investigations and other
experimental equipment common in wind tunnels.
Must be skilled in interacting with staff including subordinates,
peers, and superiors; skilled in interacting with all the public
and customers of the laboratory as well as other members of the
university community.
