QinetiQ is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to lead and execute
complex projects while interfacing with a world class machine shop
onsite at Fort Belvoir, VA. The selected engineer will be
responsible for the following:
Leading diverse teams of engineers and technicians to modify
vehicle platforms for the accommodation of new sensor technologies
in a rapid prototyping environment.
Through creativity and experience, the individual should be
comfortable contributing to the design.
Capable of working with the team to generate innovative ideas, then
able to capture those ideas and turn them into reality through
Computer Aided Design (CAD).
As a senior Mechanical Engineer, the candidate is expected to
possess strong leadership skills.
He or she should be comfortable with working through differing
viewpoints, resolving conflict, and ultimately delivering a
solution that meets the requirements of the customer.
In addition, serving as an example to the Engineering team, the Sr
Mechanical Engineer should be able to maintain a comfortable work
pace, yet possess a "Mission First" attitude when necessary.
Mounting and aligning optical assemblies as well as building
boresight alignment plans and system build plans.
The Mechanical engineer will be responsible for establishing a
repository for drawings, working with the Branch Chief to
coordinate software needs and licensing required on a limited
budget.
To Land This Job, You Need:
BS or MS in Mechanical Engineer, Aerospace Engineering, or
equivalent plus 10+ years of relevant technology design and
development experience
Knowledge of Far Target Location systems , optical test equipment,
Infrared electro-optical imaging systems, and sheet metal
design.
Experience with setting up and executing Finite Element Analysis
(FEA) models.
Strong ability to model, tolerance, generate drawings, and work
closely with a machine shop to produce original components.
Strong understanding of opto-mechanical mounting techniques and
electro-optical system development.
Experience with military hardware design with the goal of
withstanding mil-standard environmental testing and evaluation.
Experience designing using strong human factors engineering
principles; familiarity with Mil-std 1472 is a plus.
Has worked in a Product Data Management (PDM) environment where
there was model and drawing revision control.
Flexible attitude for a very fast-paced environment to develop
prototype electro-optical systems and integrate onto experimental
platforms.
Strong Leadership and Mentoring skills to drive a team to success
for the completion of a project.
Experience working in direct support of a government customer,
interfacing directly onsite with a Government supervisor.
Fluent use of CREO and Solidworks.
Experience in or with a machine shop designing and fabricated piece
parts.
Highly proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
(GD&T).
Experience with Opto-Mechanical mounting and platform
integration.
Good leadership skills .
Must be willing to travel domestically up to 25% including some
weekends.
