Project Director, GE Foundation Engineering Education Project Washington, DC For over 40 years, FHI 360's Global Education experts have worked to ensure that all children and youth have equitable access to a quality education that equips them to become productive and empowered citizens. Our youth programs are designed--with attention to--adolescents' developmental stages--to build the critical cognitive, technical and--social emotional skills that prepare adolescent students to become successful,--productive adults. Job Summary The Project Director, II position will lead a global flagship project for the GE Foundation. Working in 25 cities globally and in the US, the project will target under-represented student populations in the engineering field, cultivating future engineers. The project operates through three pillars: Engineering Expo, which builds awareness of engineering as a field for young students and their parents; Engineering Camp, which helps students build an engineering identity; and the Engineering Academy, a multi-year after-school program with upper secondary students to help them learn to think and act like engineers and prepare to apply for engineering at the university level. Students who enter university engineering program will receive scholarships.-- FHI 360 will be the global program management partner for the initiative and will be responsible for all aspects of the program including developing program content, tools and resources, identifying, training and providing technical quality control to local partners in each city, supporting communications for the program, overseeing the research and evaluation plan and ensuring accountability for grants to local partners and for scholarships recipients. The Project Director will be responsible for providing overall direction and leadership, maintaining a strong relationship with the client, managing a multi-disciplinary team from across FHI 360 and FHI Partners, leading project management and technical quality control and ensuring strong financial management, compliance, and accountability.-- The project will operate in 25 cities in the US, Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Africa. The project director will report to the Director for Post Primary and Higher Education in the Global Education department.-- Job responsibilities:-- Manages relationship with the client. Maintains relationship with GE Foundation staff and coordinates communication with GE staff in the 25 target cities through transparent and regular communication and responsiveness to client objectives and concerns.-- Provides leadership to the project team, ensuring clarity over plans and priorities,
and establishing strong communication, collaboration and teamwork and encouraging a commitment to learning and improvement. Embraces the Hoshin Kanri management approach and continuous improvement strategies. Leads the process of developing project annual workplans and budgets to establish timelines, resources and staffing needs for the project. Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities to ensure implementation of the workplan and that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame, standard operating procedures, established protocols, and funding parameters. Collaborates with / leads a matrixed team of professionals from different parts of FHI 360 and FHI Partners. The team includes staff that cover project management and operations, grant management, financial management, corporate engagement, communications, monitoring and evaluation, education and college and career readiness functions. Responsible for induction of project staff, ensuring their familiarity with project values, quality standards, policies and program objectives and their individual responsibilities in upholding these standards and policies. Provides guidance and training to managers and staff to achieve project goals. Works closely with the Global Education Associate Director for Finance, develops and oversees the process of identifying and selecting local partners, negotiating grant awards and overseeing local partner compliance with grant terms of conditions. Works closely with the Communications Specialist and the GE Foundation staff, ensures all communications promote project identity and awareness.-- Works closely with technical staff and consultants, overseeing the development of project content, including: local site operations materials, employee activation materials, engineering learning activities and design challenges, foundational skills activities, college and career exposure and readiness activities, and communication collateral.-- Responsible for creating, promoting, and maintaining safe and equitable work environments for all FHI 360 personnel, including a harassment- and violence-free work culture, and systems for safeguarding program participants. Education:** Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent --- Communications, Education, Higher Education, Public Policy, International Development, Human Development or Related Field. Master's degree preferred
Project Management (PM) Certification preferred.
-- Experience:** At least 10 years with project management experience in international programs Experience working youth at the secondary education level, in career awareness and exposure programs and with programs that prepare youth for higher education; knowledge of experience with the positive youth development approach and project based learning and other experiential learning approaches preferred Demonstrated experience in multi-sector project management and implementation Demonstrated strategic planning, staff development and capacity building experience Demonstrated experience in leading and managing complex projects and teams that are strategic in nature and national/international in scope Has sensitivity to cultural diversity and understanding of the political, contextual, and ethical issues associated with global program implementation and scalability. Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English; fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese a plus-- Experience operating in insecure environments Experience working in a non-governmental organization (NGO) and with private sector partners.-- Applied Knowledge & Skills Comprehensive knowledge project management process development and execution. Excellent and demonstrated project management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong influencing and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary, matrixed team from different parts of the organization. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to plan, organize, and manage resources
for successful completion of projects. Ability to motivate, influence, and collaborate with others. Ability to build positive local working relationships with private sector clients, local universities, non-governmental organizations and government actors.-- Thrives in a fast-paced, highly matrixed team environment and is able to meet deadlines under pressure. Travel Requirements:
