Special Instructor Applied Behavioral Analyst Job Description (SI ABA)

ABOUT OUR ORGANIZATION: Sunrise provides home based ABA (applied behavioral analyst) therapy to children with autism and spectrum disorders.

LOCATION: Washington, DC

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early intervention, early childhood education, special education, child development or family studies.

  • One-year experience working with pre-school children or children with disabilities and their families.

  • Complete competencies as state mandated.

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    The SI ABA therapist works directly with the child at their home, under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) implementing ABA treatment plans with outcomes that are socially relevant and meaningful for the child. Treatment will be directed at established in small units or behavior targets which build up toward larger and more significant changes in functioning. Treatment protocols will be implemented frequently in various environments until the child can function in a variety of situations. To ascertain progress toward treatment goals, detailed data collection on behavioral targets will be recorded. It must be measurable and obtained as a result of direct observational data analysis.

    THE SI ABA PROVIDER RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Implement 1:1 carefully designed, individualized and detailed behavior analytic treatment constructed by the supervising BCBA.

    • Perform a supervised evidence-based behavior analytic treatment using methods created by the BCBA.

    • Receive supervision from a BCBA, for each client they work with. Accept BCBA's frequent direct assessment, analysis and adjustments to the treatment plan based on the individual's progress. Participate in a training program that provides instruction on ABA, discrete trial teaching techniques, management of maladaptive behaviors, child development and data collection techniques applicable to the client population. Communicate with supervisory staff ongoingly.

    • Observe and record child's behaviors through data input into an electronic device and log hours and data accurately. Collect data towards the analysis of the individual's condition by observing the relationship of the environment to the individual's behavior, as reflected through detailed data collection.

    • Continued professional development. Willingness to pursue RBT certification for specific catchment areas if required.

      OVERVIEW OF RELEVELANT TREATMENT COMPONENTS:

      Intensive behavior Therapy (encouraged for ages 3 and under) involves multiple behavior targets across all developmental domains affected by the individual's ASD with goal is to bring the individual's level of functioning equal to typically developing peers. Behavior targets are drawn from multiple domains of functioning, including cognitive, communicative, social and emotional. Treatment is intensive and provided in structured therapy sessions. When the child can benefit from a less structured and more naturalistic treatment approach, then such approaches are utilized. An important component of this treatment model is training and participation of the parent or caregiver. Intervention also focuses on absence of developmentally appropriate adaptive or social skills, such as toileting, feeding or dressing.

      ABA therapy program is comprised of two main treatment components to extinguish or reduce the frequency of the behaviors:


      • a behavior modification component used to reduce inappropriate behaviors

      • teaching component: individualized teaching of new skills and behaviors

        • Vocational skills

        • Coping and tolerance skills

        • Adaptive and self-help skills

        • Language and communication

        • Reduction of interfering or inappropriate behaviors

          PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

          Employee should be able to physically and emotionally work with children and families. Must be able to travel distances.
