ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW: KIPP DC is a non-profit network of high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools in Washington, D.C. POSITION OVERVIEW :The Instructor of the Fellowship in Special Education will be a critical part of the CTR program. This individual will support the Director of the Special Education Fellows in managing the Fellowship in Special Education program, which grants a certification in special education, professional development and coaching to up to 45 DC teachers each year. The program involves summer professional development, weekly coursework, observation and debrief of Fellows, regular assignments, and certification. The Fellows Instructor will be responsible for grading assignments, preparation and facilitation of weekly coursework sessions, ongoing communication with Fellows, data management and some additional administrative tasks. The part-time position (30-35 hours a week with benefits) will report to the Director of the Fellowship in Special Education. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Summer Professional Development
  • Help plan and support 3 full-days of introductory professional development sessions for Fellows
  • Plan for and oversee logistics for this event*
  • Weekly Professional Development
  • Help prepare for and facilitate weekly 3 hour professional development sessions for teachers (180 hours total). Preparation and facilitation to include:
    • Supporting the Director in facilitation of whole group sessions
    • Facilitating small group breakout sessions for subset of Fellows
    • Planning and preparing necessary materials and logistics for session
    • Assignment Grading:
      • Grade six assignments for each Fellow throughout the school year
      • Provide scores and constructive comments and feedback
      • Grade resubmissions when necessary
      • Program Management
      • Maintain clear and prompt communication with all current Fellows and alumni
      • Plan Fellows' special events (holiday dinner, other celebrations)*
      • Oversee the use of all technological systems including Canvas and Torsh (online platforms)*
      • Oversee Fellows' program completion tracking including: program standing and Praxis passage*
      • Maintain clear data systems for ongoing Fellows data collection
      • Manage the middle-of-year and end-of-year survey process: revise them, track completion, synthesize and analyze data and share out*
      • CTR Team
        • Attend and actively participate in weekly CTR team meetings
        • Attend CTR events to represent Fellows and support the team (PD, interview days, celebrations, etc.)
        • *Responsibilities may be delegated to other members of the CTR team with management and oversight from the Director of Fellows REQUIREMENTS:
          • Strong special education content knowledge, experience and passion
          • Experience and skill facilitating to and teaching adults
          • Outstanding project management, organizational and event execution skills, and extraordinary attention to detail
          • Ability to work 30-35 hours (exact requirement TBD) weekly with some flexibility in exact hours
          • Ability to work every Wednesday evening until 8:45 during the school year
          • Commitment to full ownership of excellent outcomes and work products
          • Strong written and communication skills
          • Articulate, professional demeanor with strong self-confidence, initiative, and leadership skills
          • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
          • An understanding of network school building dynamics and a customer service oriented perspective
          • Proactive, results-oriented, "whatever it takes" approach to work
          • Flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate a high level of responsibility and multiple priorities
          • Unquestioned integrity and commitment to KIPP DC and CTR's mission and a passion for education
          • Experience in the field of Special Education and familiarity with federal and state law
          • Bachelor's Degree required, advanced degree is a plus
