SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Middle School team leader is responsible for coordinating and managing the operations of a grade level team. The team leader should be an effective facilitator, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be committed to collaboration with all stakeholders for the benefit of students. The role focuses on coordinating the grade level instructional program and fostering collaboration among teachers across grade level teams. The team leader analyzes grade level and individual student achievement data to ensure school improvement targets are met. They promote and facilitate student and parent engagement and participate in the Leadership Team to support school initiatives. Additional time and compensation are provided to support these responsibilities.
CERTIFICATE LICENSE:
Meets the Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for a middle school assignment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of grade level curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
  
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  
• Understanding of the middle school child.
  
• Ability to work well with students, teachers, and administrators.
  
• Strong skills in data collection and analysis of formative and summative data sources.
  
• Strong technology skills.
  
• Knowledge of and understanding of the master schedule.
  
• Knowledge of Baldrige tools and practices.
  
• Outstanding facilitation, organizational, and management skills.
  
• Excellent oral, written communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills.
  
• Knowledge and application of the six performance standards of the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
  
  EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
  
  • 
    
  • Holds, from an accredited institution, a master's degree or its equivalent, or is within one year of fulfilling this requirement.
    
  • Minimum of three years of outstanding teaching experience; one year of MCPS teaching experience preferred.
    
  • Experience teaching in middle school.
    
  • Demonstrates excellent skills in working effectively with people.
    
  • Other applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
    
    SELECTION AND CONTINUANCE OF SERVICE:
    Selected by the principal and a team including teachers from the grade level team. (When the career lattice is implemented, team leaders will need to achieve lead teacher status.)
    EVALUATION:
    Evaluation will be based on the standards of the Teacher Professional Growth System.
