Job Description:
Responsibilities: Duties will include teaching undergraduate
courses in music education, including string education; graduate
courses in music education; and directing the Camerata Chamber
Orchestra. The normal teaching load is 5 courses/year (2 one
semester, 3 one semester). In addition to the teaching
responsibilities, there is a substantial department service role
that includes managing an ensemble, mentoring string music
education students, recruiting for the orchestra and the music
education program, and interfacing with local schools through guest
clinics, observations, and the like. Initial appointment is for one
year, and may be renewed for up to two additional one-year periods.
Rank: Lecturer, non-tenure-track. Requirements: Applicants must
have at minimum A.B.D. status in a doctoral program in Music
Education, demonstrated experience in orchestral conducting, a
minimum of three years documented successful public school teaching
experience, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in
teaching. Preferred qualifications include a background in string
pedagogy, college teaching experience, music technology, and
receipt of doctorate by the date of appointment. About the
Department of Music at CWRU: The successful candidate for this
position will add to a vibrant team of music scholars, artists, and
educators. CWRU and The Cleveland Institute of Music cooperate in a
Joint Music Program, providing students with the advantages of both
a conservatory and a major research university. The two
institutions share a campus setting in University Circle, together
with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the
Music Settlement, and over twenty other cultural organizations.
