The Department of Theatre and Dance at Santa Clara University
(www.scu.edu), a Jesuit, Catholic university located in Silicon
Valley, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor
position in Costume Design and related fields, to begin in
Specializations could include: Costume Design and Script Analysis,
Drawing and Rendering Skills, Computer Enhanced Design,Global
Fashion History, Textile knowledge/Textile dyeing and
manipulation,Costume Construction including Costume Crafts, Wigs
and Makeup (including cultural awareness in these fields).
Additional focus in teaching and/or research as it pertains to
Costumes might include: Gender and Sexuality in Performance and/or
Diversity and Global/Cultural Costume Traditions.
The successful applicant will design costumes for four of five
departmental productions (plays, dance concerts, and devised
theatre projects), teach Costume Construction, Intro to Design, and
Stage Makeup; teach one upper division course in Costume Design and
a second upper division course (alternate years), based upon
interests, which could include Fashion History/Gender, Race, and
Sexuality in Performance, Religion/Spirituality/Ritual in Costumes
and Performance, and/or Fashion/Race and Ethnicity in
Applicants with a specialization in one or more of the following
areas, Gender and Sexuality in Performance,
Religion/Spirituality/Ritual in Performance, and Race and Ethnicity
in Performance, are encouraged to apply.
