Job Description:

APHA Press is looking for a food-related scientist with strong managerial and editing skills to oversee APHA's flagship product (digital, print): Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products . The SMEDP Managing Editor (consultant) will work with a team of editors and authors to develop, review, and deliver content (digital, print). The candidate should have a master's degree or higher in a food-related science (e.g., microbiology, chemistry).Managing Editor duties and responsibilities:

• Manage a team of lead editor(s), authors, and a technical committee
• Work with lead editor(s) to review and finalize chapters for publication (digital, print).
• Vet the quality of authors' work during the review process.
• Ensure the quality of editing and formatting of all products.
• Assist lead editors in building and nurturing teams of talented authors and reviewers.
• Assist in evaluating finalized copy for compliance with policies, style, and tone.
• Work with book production editor to ensure final work is prepared for publication.
• Implement best practices, workflows, tools, and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process.
• Coordinate calls with the editors and the APHA Press team to provide updates.Managing Editor qualifications and requirements:
  • Master's degree or higher in chemistry, microbiology, or food-related science preferred.
  • Experience managing a team.
  • Excellent editing skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office and content management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
