Job Description Job Title: OR Scheduler (Hospital Setting) Location: Gaithersburg, MD 20878 Contract Duration: 13 weeks (with potential for permanent hire) Department: Surgical Services Pay: $21 – $24 per hour Shift: Day Shift Hours: 40 hours per week Schedule: Monday – Thursday: 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM | Friday: 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM Key Responsibilities: Schedule surgical procedures in the hospital operating room using the electronic health record system Coordinate operating room schedules with surgeons, anesthesia teams, nursing staff, and surgical departments Ensure all required documentation, patient information, and procedure details are accurately entered in the scheduling system Verify patient demographics, insurance information, and procedure requirements prior to scheduling Communicate with physician offices and internal departments to confirm surgical dates, times, and resource availability Maintain and update the OR schedule to reflect changes, cancellations, or urgent add-on procedures Ensure proper allocation of operating room time, equipment, and staff resources Review surgical requests for completeness and accuracy using medical terminology knowledge Collaborate with perioperative staff to support efficient workflow and patient throughput Maintain strict patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA guidelines Participate in team meetings, weekly huddles, and provide updates on scheduling issues or conflicts Assist with reporting, tracking scheduling data, and resolving discrepancies within the system Qualifications: High School Diploma or GED (required) 2–5 years of experience scheduling surgeries in a hospital operating room setting (required) Strong knowledge of medical terminology Experience using electronic health record scheduling systems Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills Ability to coordinate with multiple departments in a fast-paced healthcare environment Required System Experience: Experience scheduling surgical procedures in a hospital EHR system (required)
