We're an energetic bunch who are constantly innovating within a rapidly expanding organization.Get to know the V4P staff at: WHERE YOU'LL FIT IN THE TEAM:The Senior Policy Associate will be an integral part of the Policy Team. This position will specialize in federal democracy policy and/or areas of federal economic & social justice policy (depending on experience, need, etc.) and assist with all aspects of the organization's policy program, both federally and in California state. This includes policy research, preparing materials and member communications, outreach to lawmakers' offices and advocacy partners, and assisting with the smooth functioning of the team.This position is a non-exempt position. This position performs some similar responsibilities on behalf of a 501(c)(4) sister organization focused on building relationships with and electing progressive candidates with a focus on under-represented communities. The position is located in Washington, D.C. Currently, staff may choose to work remotely. Occasional travel is required to Sacramento and around the Washington, D.C. area to attend policy coalitions, conferences, and government meetings as needed. This position is based in Washington, D.C.. The successful candidate will be required to be located within the D.C., Maryland, and Virginia areas (commonly referred to as the DMV).WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Advocacy Implementation: Assist in the creation of all materials for the Policy Team, including but not limited to: issue briefs, talking points, and communications with members to enable them to take action on important federal and California state policy issues. Assist with and present content for virtual/in-person lobbying meetings and other policy events.
  • External Collaboration and Government Relations: Represent V4P in coalitions and with partner organizations, etc. as needed. Correspond with congressional and CA state legislative offices. Sign on to and track organizational legislative position letters.
  • Policy Direction:Play a more central role in strategy and steering of policy advocacy regarding in specialty area (either federal democracy policy and/or some areas of federal economic & social justice policy).
  • Administrative: Provide general and administrative support for the Policy staff. Maintain data in, and coordinate Policy Team use of, software programs and other records, including Knowlegis, Salesforce, Capitol Track, and Gov Buddy.WHAT WE PROVIDE:We hope that you are excited by the opportunity to work with us.     • Compensation: The salary for this position is $52,000 or more plus overtime as needed. Final salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
    • Insurance: We offer medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance coverage for you and your family. Full-time employees who select it receive individual medical coverage at a cost of $1 a month.
    • 403(b) Plan: We match 100% of the first 4% of your contributions and 50% of the next 2% for a maximum of 5% of your salary. Vested immediately.
    • Generous Vacation and Paid Time Off: We've built infrastructure to encourage our team to rest and recharge throughout the year. (12 paid personal leave days, 12 sick days, 14 paid wellness days, 12 holidays, 3 floating holidays, 7 days of paid office closures including a 1-week winter break).
    • Paid Leave of Absence Policy: Paid for any FMLA-covered event, including parental or family leave. No waiting period.
    • Pre-Tax FSA Plan: medical, dependent care, and transit elections.
    • Cell Phone Stipend: $75 monthly to support cell phone expenses.
    • Loan Forgiveness: Based on our 501(c)(3) status, you can receive student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.WHAT YOU BRING:
      • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
      • At least three years' experience in a related field (e.g. congressional or state legislative staff/intern/fellow, policy advocacy/lobbying, or other types of relevant experience, etc.)
        • Background in democracy policy (voting, campaign finance reform, ethics, etc.) or economic and social justice policy preferred. Strong working knowledge of federal policy and interest or experience in learning state policy required.
        • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
        • Superb research proficiency and writing capabilities, including ability to summarize complex information and motivate people.
        • Very strong computer skills, and willingness to learn new software as needed. Competency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite required.
        • Able to manage many small assignments simultaneously.
        • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced multi-office organization, in which change is not uncommon.
        • Clear communicator.
        • A team player who collaborates well with others.
