search for a Senior Environmental Scientist that is seeking to
utilise their expertise in water and waste management and
contribute towards protecting our environment and the surrounding
communities of which Alcoa operates.Reporting into our Regional
Environment Manager and joining our corporate environmental
function located at our head office in Booragoon, you will be
supporting our WA refineries, mine sites and VIC smelter,
influencing strategic planning, risk mitigation strategies and
ensuring that compliance is consistently achieved.In this role,
your key activities and purpose will be:
- Supporting locations to assess compliance performance against
the requirements of their operating licences and water operating
strategies.
- Providing hydrogeological technical advice to sites including
assistance in reviewing groundwater and surface water data, third
party reports and contaminated sites data and reports where
appropriate.
- Managing the technical scopes of the regional environmental
water monitoring contracts, ensuring contracts fulfil the
requirements of each operating location's licence and internal
management processes.
- Proactively identifying potentially applicable environmental
headwinds, and effectively raise concerns and challenges to
internal stakeholders for further attention.
- Tracking and interpreting the external regulatory and political
environment including federal and state environmental legislative
changes and changes in government policy with particular emphasis
on water and waste management.
- Supporting the development of negotiation, gap analysis,
multidisciplinary plans, and compliance strategies to mitigate or
address these risks.
- Maintaining oversight of and coordinates regional level
interactions with government agencies and consultants to ensure
Alcoa meets the requirements of relevant regulations.
- Driving targeted water and waste improvement initiatives and
facilitating best practice sharing through collaboration with
internal customers, industry bodies and government agencies.
- Maintaining a high level of knowledge and expertise by actively
seeking out new technologies and methodologies for water
management, water stewardship and waste management.What's on offer:

can bring to the role:
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or other
relevant degree.
- Qualifications and / or experience in technical aspects of
hydrogeology would be well considered.
- Well developed environmental management experience including
significant background in water accounting and stewardship.
- Previous experience in a heavy industrial, manufacturing, or
regulatory environment.
- Proven knowledge of, and experience in, relevant State and
Commonwealth legislation relevant to the effective and sustainable
management of surface and groundwater in industrial processes and
waste management within an industrial setting.
- Demonstrated ability to engage with a variety of internal and
external stakeholders including senior management, technical
professionals, and operational personnel at a senior level.
- A high level of initiative and effective communication that
excels working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams
towards driving improvement outcomes.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills, including
