The Staff Accountant is responsible for daily activities related to assuring customers are taxed properly, exemptions are properly documented, customer tax disputes are resolved, and use tax is properly applied. You'll be responsible for all daily accounting tasks, including preparing documents and updating expense files.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet the department's objectives.KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:Ability to prioritize and multi-task. Responsive to unpredictable business demands. Able to keep multiple projects on track simultaneously and work well under pressure and short deadlines.Initiative and self-management: Demonstrate no need or close supervision or instruction for routine tasks. Be proactive and make proposals. Bring problems with your suggested solution.Expert knowledge of accounting and general ledger transactionsExcellent oral, written and presentation skills.Advanced financial and adhoc reporting skills.Ability to research, analyze, make recommendations, and evaluate financial reports to improve the organization hybridMaintenance of sales tax remittance system (OneSource) and procedures, including sales tax exemptions, audits, queries, and Voluntary Disclosure Agreements (VDA)Monthly check on sales tax compliance for all statesIdentify and confirm all sales tax exemption data; collect, retain and upload exempt certificates for exempt customers when an exemption certificate is received.Review invoices for correct sales and use tax; checking customer status and applicable sales tax ratesPrepare and send to third party monthly/quarterly sales and use tax data timely, efficiently, and accurately so fillings can happen on timeWork closely with the third party company doing the fillings, so the returns can be filled timely and accuratelyPrepare check requests as needed for complianceReview & analyze Company's sales tax data and returns; Ensure all payments for sales tax are properly recorded in the general ledgerReconcile all transactions and state submittals to the general ledger monthly; Prepare and record general ledger journal entries as neededIdentify and document Company's business requirements related to sales and use taxRespond to state and local notices, assessments, and inquiriesAssist/manage audits of sales and use tax state and local filingsResearch sales tax issues and provide guidance based on jurisdictional tax laws and regulationsEnsure that appropriate internal controls are in place over accounting for sales & use tax reportingPrepare filings related to business licenses, personal property taxes and gross receipts taxesMaintain accurate financial records, including but not limited to, balance sheet account reconciliations, documentation of all cash paid for taxes, journal entry support, and appropriate detail for ad hoc analysis.Monthly bank reconciliationsPerform other related duties or special projects as assigned.RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Account Bing/Finance OR Bachelor's Degree3 - 5 years of progressive accounting experience.Proficiency in Excel is requiredMust be inquisitive & willing to explore issues until reaching a logical/supported solutionDetail oriented with an ability to critically analyze data & reportsExperience filing sales and use tax returns preferredExperience with tax software preferredTechnology savvy with knowledge of accounting and reporting software with NetSuite and OneSource preferred.Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and proactiveBenefitsHealth/Dental/Vision401K: Immediately vestedTuition assistanceQualified employer under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program (PFSL)Generous Paid Time OffDog-friendly officePrivate gym onsite
