Job Description

The Senior Executive Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer is the top financial position within the MicroStrategy organization and is responsible for execution of global accounting and finance policies and procedures and is looked to as the accounting and finance subject matter expert and resource in the company. As the CFO, this role directs the overall financial plans and accounting practices of a publicly traded, global software organization, which also has a significant investment in bitcoin. This includes overseeing the corporate treasury, accounting, financial reporting and analysis, investor relations, SEC, tax, and revenue recognition, functions of the organization and its subsidiaries as well as SOX compliance and key internal controls. In addition, this role has oversight of all finance system initiatives and controls and standards to ensure timely financial and operational reporting for management and the board of directors. As the executive leader to the worldwide finance team, this role is responsible for providing direction and delegation to personnel, departmental activities, and develops and recommends plans for overall operations. Lastly, this is an important member of the MicroStrategy executive team and will be an advisor and decision maker in key corporate strategic and operational decisions.

Job Duties (include But Not Limited To) General
Oversees all company accounting and finance practices, including treasury, accounting, financial reporting and analysis, investor relations, SEC, tax, revenue recognition and, audit functions as well as SOX compliance and key internal controls
Manages the global finance team and provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to all direct reports
Hires, trains, and develops personnel
Delegates responsibilities effectively
Discusses performance issues with staff regularly and prepare annual performance evaluations for staff on a timely basis
Ensures that the finance department is responsive to external and internal customers
Performs other assignments and duties as assigned
Treasury and Investor Relations
Directs and oversee financing opportunities including debt and equity markets activity to support the company's strategy of acquiring and holding bitcoin
Oversees the company's treasury including the use of excess cash flow, bitcoin acquisitions, and establishing relationships and accounts with banks, exchanges, and custodians
Evaluates risks facing the company and its affiliates and ensure that company properties and activities are adequately insured
Manages regular investor relations activities including earnings release, earnings calls, investor calls, roadshows, and analyst days
Ensures that financial information produced by the Worldwide Finance Department is accurate, timely, and supports management functions and overall company objectives
Ensures that the finance organization performs its core accounting and reporting duties effectively and efficiently
Reviews and analyzes worldwide consolidated financial statements and results, consistent with SEC reporting guidelines
Responsible for review of all software revenue recognition requirements of the company on a worldwide basis
Through oversight of internal audit, ensures compliance with regulatory and SOX requirements
Reviews all US Federal, state, and local income, sales, use, and property tax returns, and review of the company's quarterly worldwide GAAP tax provision and reconciliation of all tax accounts
Monitors compliance of income tax filings and directing the compliance of the company's worldwide transfer pricing and cost allocation structure
Reviews and manages all financial systems and ensure implementation of initiatives in order to ensure processes run smoothly and efficiently
Financial Planning and Analysis
Directs financial strategy, planning and forecasts at a corporate level, conferring with the executive management team and global department heads
Prepares and reviews annual operating budgets
Develops and contribute to company strategic plans from a financial perspective
Studies, analyzes, and reports on trends, opportunities for expansion and projection of future company growth and planning
Drives and adapts to strategic shifts in the companies' business model
Oversees incentive compensation team focused on sales commissions and consulting bonuses
Oversees global procurement function with focus on IT and marketing vendor management
Oversees MicroStrategy's global commercial real estate portfolio with over 30 locations worldwide

Job Requirements
Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance, MBA a plus
15+ years' experience, including work with a public company
CPA with experience working in a Big 4 accounting firm preferred
Proven expertise in most of the following finance areas: treasury, investor relations, insurance, accounting, tax, internal audit, financial systems, FP&A, compensation, and real estate
Proven expertise in most of the following industry areas preferred: multi-national companies, cloud software, cryptocurrency
Passion for analytics and cryptocurrency
Strong demonstration of MicroStrategy corporate values: Engaged, Precise, Agile, Transparent, Cheerful
Excellent written and oral communications skills
