Qualifications for NGA positions do not include specific time-in-band requirements. For more information on the array of benefits programs, please visit Position Summary ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTION: Financial Auditors conduct independent assessments of Agency financial policy, programs, and operations, in accordance with NGA Office of Inspector General (OIG) guidance, Government Auditing Standards, and other applicable requirements. They may oversee contractors performing NGA's financial statement audits. They gather and analyze information to determine whether potential findings exist and identify recommendations for improvement. They prepare working papers and reports, including findings and recommendations. They follow up on report recommendations to ensure that appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Additional Position Info ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The NGA OIG Audit Division conducts independent, objective audits and other reviews of NGA programs and operations and makes recommendations to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of NGA policies, programs, and operations. The OIG Audit Division seeks a Financial Auditor to research, plan, and conduct financial and performance audits and reviews. This individual will have an opportunity to participate in all aspects of the audit cycle from development of an annual audit plan through follow-up on recommendations. This individual must have a strong ethical commitment to ensure the integrity, efficiency, and effectiveness of NGA programs; knowledge of Government Auditing Standards including knowledge and experience with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Codification of Statements on Auditing Standards. This individual must be self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team environment. This individual must also have strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work on multiple tasks with short deadlines while prioritizing as necessary to meet critical needs. Mandatory Qualification Reqs MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). * Ability to produce verbal and written communication as it pertains to audit findings/reporting and recommendations to management.
* Ability of being objective when handling various situations that pertain to the auditing process, and being able to sustain from biases in efforts to render the most efficient long-term solution. EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or a related field such as Business Administration, Finance, Information Technology, or Public Administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in Accounting or Auditing. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: At least 4 years of experience in Accounting or Auditing, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: 1. A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours in Accounting or Auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; 2. A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or 3. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in Accounting or Auditing, e.g., 15 semester (22 quarter) hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in Accounting or Auditing, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. Highly Desired Skills QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: * Maintain Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor certifications.
* Knowledge of Federal financial accounting standards and guidance.
* Experience conducting performance audits of Federal government programs. Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. Additional Job Requirements You must be able to obtain and retain a Top Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs.
